I just saw "Capernaum" last night - it is one of the best films I've ever seen. This young man, Zain Al Rafeea, is an amazing actor. His performance was beautiful and made me cry. I hope Zain has a very successful future and I look forward to seeing him in many more movies
I saw it last Marh (2020) and like you, I loved it It was one of the very best movies I saw all year. Zain was amazing. I looked into his story and he is now living in Norway with his family, going to school, and pursuing a career in acting. He has such a gift. And watching this little video made my eyes well up all over again for the sad beauty of his life, and his story. I am so glad it has a happy ending..
I would definitely rank his performance in the top 20 list of one of the greatest film performances by a child actor of all time, and he should’ve gotten an Oscar nomination for Best Actor! Unfortunately, there’s still a bias against child actors, as the credits are given to the directors, rather than the child actors for their performances. It some cases, that’s true but it’s not for every case, IMO.
Im actually a refugee my self and I'm 11... When I first came to Canada life was tough we didn't know the language,I didn't have any friends, and I was mostly shy to ask someone to play with me but now I've been here 3 years and I've had a successful life so far... I competed in the spelling bee celebrated Christmas and thanksgiving!
The suffering of all people all over the world but that of children is heart wrenching. When he said things like ‘a place of education and peace’ or ‘the crew treated me like a human being’. A child shouldn’t have to talk like that. I wish him and his family all the best moving forward.
They have been making these movies, about children enduring abject poverty , in places all over the world, since the 50s, like "The Bicycle Thief" and "Pathar Panchali", and not a damn thing has gotten better , in the world to end child poverty, fact of the matter it gets worse! We watch these movies , feel heartbroken, for a few weeks , then forget about it , and move on effecting no change and demanding none!
He was truly perfect for the role. This movie moved my soul. He was so good you felt every emotion, every despair. He must have drawn on real pain. May God bless his family.
We know life of refugees how difficult. Because we spend a lot of time in refugees. Our Allah help all refugees in the world. Special for Syrian peoples

Saw “Capharnaum”, with Spanish subtitles. It is the most powerful film I´ve seen in a long long time. Hope it gets the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film!
The movie is absolutely a master piece I loved it but I couldn't understand how this kid is so incredibl at acting it blew my mind but then I understood that he could relate to the situations in the movie and in fact he gone through some of them that's why it was so easy for him to acted out ❤️❤️
Exactly! I feel the same thing that there's something in his eyes which is very sad. The sadness which is rare in children's eyes unless they have seen the worst themselves already. I really hope this kid gets all the good things and I wish him all the best for his life. ❤
Zain is great actor and he performs as a leading actor. His act was incredibly perfect. The way he shows the pain from his eyes. He is going to be great actor.
I'm happy to hear the family got to move to Norway. This is my home country, and I think they will get a great life here. They will be taken well cared for. It will be difficulties in their life still ofcourse. But now they can atleast feel more safe, and continue a good life style.
I dont event know arabic. But it made me cry. The acting felt so real never for one second I thought its a movie :( The little boy Zain is a star. He has a long career ahead of him
I wish the movie had a different story line. I have met many Syrian children who have endured hardship and had to help their families, most children lost their parents and had to support their younger siblings. The story of a boy suing his parents is way too western. When in reality these Arab children would never think of scooping that low to destroy their families lives more than their lives have already been destroyed.
Not always.U under estimate the anger that comes with growing up as street kid as suppose to being refuge only. Not all refuges kids have decent parents or family, war can mess adults badly eg. Human trafficing and running girls for sex , arms and drugs. Such kid see children cared for by their financal abled families might instage hatred to his fate and background. Value in Arab world are changing and not all of it is good change.
A. S This is a Lebanese movie and they know better about the Syrian refugees. In Lebanon, there are 2 million Syrians and that's number is more than half of the Lebanese population. The Lebanese deal with the Syrians on a daily basis and they know about the Syrians and their ways of surviving.
Firstly, Zain in the movie is not a Syrian refugee. The actor is, but the Zain in the movie is not. Secondly, Nadine Labaki said in an interview I saw, that Zain was at times very angry when they were shooting the film. He has seen and experienced a lot of abuse and violence against himself and other children (although his family is very loving but he grew up on the streets). Nadine said that the words he used at the end where he calls the TV show were his own words. I'm sure he would never sue his own parents - but for movie Zain it seems very believable I think.
Harshness shapes maturity of one's life. 'Zain' portrayed himself as a very mature kid in the movie...but reality is he able to did this becoz he faced it in reality.A caring brother, a smart kid with a very sweet heart..ready to help needy.. attitude of facing challenges with positivity.Best movie I hv ever gone through.Changed my outlook towarda life.Thank you Zain for this..n to director of movie too.👍

As long as there is greedy nations wanting to feed on the natural resources of third world countries, war and poverty will always exist.
@Ron Mosely then we should do better, we shoudl ask ourselves what can we do? And take action.
